Student Assistant for Adapted Primary School in Kumla
Are you someone driven by and passionate about making a difference for students with intellectual disabilities? Do you find it easy to build relationships and contribute to the team by being a team player? We are now looking for a student assistant for a temporary position at our adapted primary school in Kumla!
About Kumlaby School
Kumlaby School is a grades F-9 school comprising both a regular primary school and an adapted primary school, located in southern Kumla. The school is situated in a nature-rich area that inspires the pedagogical work. Our catchment area extends across the entire southern part of the county, and we currently have approximately 50 students in the adapted primary school. The school has a total of approximately 550 students and 130 staff members distributed across three operations: adapted primary school, regular primary school for grades F-6, and grades 7-9.
Kumlaby School is led by a team of three principals and one deputy principal. In the adapted primary school operation, we have an enhanced student health service consisting of two special needs pedagogues who work closely with the operation, prioritizing guidance and promoting and preventive work. All students have a digital device used in teaching.
Responsibilities
1 position.
The duties are performed both through classroom work during school hours and at the after-school center (fritidshem).
You will contribute to ensuring that daily life at the school runs smoothly for our students and young people, and that the pedagogical work is based on the children's participation and influence. You will be a key link in implementing the teacher's planned instruction, and you will also be a valuable resource for work within the after-school activities before and after the school day.
You will work in a team consisting of both educators and student assistants. The teaching is based on the individual student's needs, interests, and prerequisites. We work to provide students with useful experiences and encounters, using a life perspective as our starting point. Participation, communication, and clarity are key words in our operation.
You will collaborate closely with guardians, the school's student health team, and other external professionals such as habilitation services and short-term care homes. You will also collaborate with other operations at Kumlaby School.
Qualifications and Merits
You who apply to us have a preschool teacher education or alternatively an education as a personal assistant with specialization in autism and/or intellectual disability. The position requires good experience with intellectual disabilities.
It is an advantage if you are also educated in low-arousal approaches (low-affective handling), and we would prefer that you have previously worked in an adapted primary school or with students within the autism spectrum, and that you have knowledge of AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication).
For us, it is important that you, as an applicant, have an interest and commitment to this target group.
As a person, you are positive, engaged, and flexible, and have a good ability for innovative thinking, as these are qualities we value highly. You have a professional approach towards both students, guardians, and colleagues. You are curious about the students' different ways of thinking, learning, and understanding, and see their individual needs as a challenge.
You are good at collaborating with others in the daily work with the students. You also plan the activities together, which places great demands on clear and sensitive communication with each other.
